Rock Climbing for Kids
Bring your kids in for Urban Rocks Kid's Climb Time:
Kid's Climb Time is held every Tues & Thurs from 1PM - 4PM. During this time an Urban Rocks staff member will belay your child for free. Climbing Pass and Rental Gear prices still apply and climbs will be on a first come basis. Parents must remain in the gym during their children's climb time to supervise.
Learn to manage the ropes yourself:
This is a good option if you think you will be coming more than once and/or would like to spend quality time with your kids. There is a one time $15 fee for a belay class. The class takes 30 minutes and is offered during our regular hours until 8PM on weekdays and 6PM on weekends. NO reservations required.
Let an Urban Rocks staff member belay your child:
The cost is $20 for an half hour or $30 for an hour. Regular Climbing Pass & Rental Gear prices still apply.
Check out our RATES page at UrbanRocksGym.com for Climbing Pass and Rental Gear prices.
Supervised Child Care:
Child Care for climbers is now available at Urban Rocks. Let our certified staff supervise your children in a fun, safe atomosphere while you catch up with friends and climb without distraction! The upstairs lounge area will be gated off during the child care sessions and will have toys, activities & children's movies for their entertainment.

STEELE SENDFEST COMP RESULTS
ON May 29th, 2009, Urban Rocks Gym hosted the Steele Sendfest bouldering competition as a fundraiser for the S.C.C's purchase of cliff-line in Steele, AL. The night turned out great with competitors of all ages and abilities alongside plenty of spectators who came to show their support. All of the setters brought their "A game" and set 50 new boulder problems getting all of the competitors psyched! After the 3 hours of competing, everyone chowed down on pizza and anxiously awaited for their raffle ticket to be called. Due to the wonderful sponsorship from La Sportiva, 5.10, Chaco, Mammut and Patagonia we had 25 raffle prizes to pass out ranging from liquid chalk and headlamps to tote bags, frisbees and a free pair of Spportiva shoes!
By the end of the night, competitors and spectators helped Urban Rocks raise $500 for Steele and the S.C.C. Thanks to the most generous donations from La Sportiva, 5.10, and Chaco, all finalists went home with a FREE pair of shoes! Thanks again to everyone who came out, gave their support and helped to make this a really great competition. We look forward to seeing you all at our next event here at Urban Rocks Gym!

Climb Higher - An Adaptive Climbing Program
Chris Gibson, co-owner of Urban Rocks Gym reports, "the program went very well with a turnout of about 10-12 individuals each week. During the first week, you can tell a few participants are apprehensive with climbing, and it seems by the third week, they were ready to clip themselves in and go climbing!"
This program offered the opportunity for diverse communities to unite and share their love for adventure. Rock/Creek and Chaco have a long standing relationship with community involvement. Chad Wykle from Chaco and Dawson Wheeler, co-owner of Rock/Creek, both heavily emphasize its importance.
"We had the means to be a support through money set aside from fundraisers. Each year we raise money with Rock/Creek promotions and pool the profits to give back to the community. Both Rock/Creek and Chaco were approached by Outdoor Chattanooga and Therapeutic Recreation with this unique opportunity in mind and portions of the funds were distributed toward the program's needs" Chad says.
Dawson states, "It was not a difficult decision when it came to supporting Climbing Higher. We heard about the need, and agreed on the importance of extending out to all forms of community needs."
Elaine Adams, Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator, and Jessica Crowe, Therapeutic Recreation Intern, organized the assistance of UTC Physical Therapy student volunteers. The students' qualifications aided in a safe and meaningful experience for every participant. Elaine testifies to the inspiring stories from parents and caregivers about personal achievements. "The greatest part about this program is the opportunity for our participants to do something like this. Of course the concept of climbing is about getting to the top and it's a success, but why else do you climb? It's about physical fitness, hanging out with your friends, and that part about it is huge. To have that ability to come and have fun is therapeutic in itself."
The positive experiences will not stop with this program. Every purchaser of a pair of promotional Rock/Creek Chaco sandals contributed to these programs. Rock/Creek consumers can walk with pride, knowing a portion of their purchases will undoubtedly be given back to the community.
